My Top Ten Yoga Quotes

Remembering back to taking classes with my yoga teacher who then lead me through the yoga training, one thing that stood out in her classes was when she would read a quote or a poem at the end of shavasana.  I myself do that now when I teach.  Sometimes it was like she intuitively knew what I needed to hear right at that moment in my life.  I hung onto those word at times with great appreciation.
I like that I carry that tradition on, and hopefully, I touch hearts just like she touched mine.

That is my intention.

Here are a few quotes that really resonate with me-

  1. "Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."  ~The Bhagavada Gita

  2. "I have been a Seeker and I still am, but I stopped asking the books and the stars.  I started listening to the teaching of my soul."  ~Rumi

  3. "Be a lamp to yourself.  Be your own confidence.  Hold on to the truth within yourself as to the only truth."  ~Buddha

  4. "Do your practice and all is coming."  ~Patthabi Jois

  5. "When you inhale, you are taking the strength from God.  When you exhale, it represents the service you are giving to the world."  ~B.K.S. Iyengar

  6. "Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny."  ~Upanishads

  7. “True yoga is not about the shape of your body, but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; yoga is to be lived. Yoga doesn’t care about what you have been; yoga cares about the person you are becoming. Yoga is designed for a vast and profound purpose, and for it to be truly called yoga, its essence must be embodied.” — Aadil Palkhivala

  8. "Yoga does not remove us from the reality or responsibilities of everyday life but rather places our feet firmly and resolutely in the practical ground of experience. We don't transcend our lives; we return to the life we left behind in the hopes of something better.” ~ Donna Farhi

  9. “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” ~ Gandhi

  10. “Remember, it doesn’t matter how deep into a posture you go – what does matter is who you are when you get there.” ~ Max Strom
